Britney Spears is no longer part of The X Factor, yet she's still managed to land on The Hollywood Reporter 's annual Reality Heat Index, which ranks players in the reality TV show landscape based on ratings, pop culture and social media impact, power and overall impact on the business.

Number one on the list is NBC's ratings hit The Voice , while American Idol host and reality show producer Ryan Seacrest is #3.  Number five includes , collectively, Simon Cowell , Mariah Carey , Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine and Howard Stern , who are all in what the publication calls "the $10 Million+ Music Mentor Club."

As for Britney, she's the only other famous reality-connected musician on the list: sorry Nicki Minaj , Demi Lovato , Keith Urban, Usher , Shakira , Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green .  As for why she's on there , The Hollywood Reporter says Britney is an example of  "falling upward" -- in other words, she demonstrates how failing on reality TV can lead to bigger things.

In Britney's case, after she announced in January that she wasn't returning to X Factor , her single "Scream & Shout" hit the top ten, she started talks for a Las Vegas residency worth tens of millions of dollars and anticipation for her next album is super-high.

The lesson is that "failing on reality TV can be a lucrative audition for the next act," says the publication.  Or, as American Music Awards executive producer Larry Klein puts it, "Just when you think it might be over for her, she pulls a rabbit out of her hat."
