Service Dog Put Down Because Owner Dies

Service Dogs

A story that some are calling a case of legal animal cruelty.

News10 is reporting that 68 year old Shelia Stadler of Brazil died after a long illness March 8th.

The family is quoted as saying that the woman was so attached to her 5 year old Seeing Eye dog that the family had the perfectly healthy trained dog euthanized and displayed in the coffin and buried with its former owner.

News 10 quoted the woman’s son Andy Stadler saying that the dog was mourning the loss of its owner.

According to trained professionals that would be a normal response.

It does appear that nothing illegal was done.

Many times service animals are repurposed when their owners die and go on to serve another owner or become.

No word on what vet performed the procedure.
