Gov. Pat Quinn’s plan to shut down two major prisons and other state facilities got a boost recently when an Alexander County judge ruled to dissolve an injunction stopping the closures.
Gov. Quinn says shutting the high-security Tamms prison and the women’s lockup in Dwight, among others, will save the taxpayers money.
Opponents say that shutting the prisons will only make the remaining prisons more dangerous for both inmates and employees.
