A survey from the Indiana Prevention Resource Center shows 2.1% of high school seniors have used heroin and that number is climbing. Bill Stanczykiewicz with the Indiana Youth Institute says that while that number may seem low, it's 50% higher than the national average. The survey also shows 21% of high school seniors have illegally abused prescription drugs. Heroin isn’t as popular was it was several years ago. Stanczykiewicz told WIBQ News that economics means that since demand is low, the price is low, making it more appealing to teens.
