A Terre Haute city street was closed yesterday after a chemical spill.

Voorhees between 3^rd and 14^th had to be shut down after around 100 gallons of caustic soda was spilled by a leaking tanker.

The chemical is an alkaline solution and was washed down the storm sewer.

Fire officials say that was a safe way to dispose of the chemical.

No injuries were reported.
