CENTURIA, Wis. (WHBL) - A rural couple from northwest Wisconsin were among six people killed in a fire last weekend at a bed-and-breakfast in New Ulm Minnesota. Joe and Dian Bergman of Centuria in Polk County were staying with long-time friends from Nebraska when the Bohemian Bed-and-Breakfast was destroyed last Saturday. The couple’s son, Jacob Bergman, said today that his family lived in Nebraska before moving to Wisconsin two decades ago. And his parents would have celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary next month. Bed-and-breakfast owner Roberta McCray was also killed in the blaze along with her two daughters, and Andy Uhing of Hartington Nebraska. Uhing’s wife escaped. The cause of the fire has not been disclosed, but officials found no indication it was started on purpose. The Minneapolis Star Tribune said McCray did not apply for a license to use the main house this year for paying guests – and the building did not get an inspection. Previous city inspections uncovered problems the previous two years, and officials said they were corrected.
