GREEN BAY, Wis. (WTAQ) - An Eagle Scout from the Green Bay area wants the state Legislature to create a special license plate to recognize scouts like him.

Zac Chambers, who now goes to UW-Green Bay, says the idea is helping him stay involved in scouting. He also says the special plate will encourage more boys to become scouts, and strive to become Eagle Scouts.

State Senate Democrat Dave Hansen of Green Bay says he’ll introduce a bill which the Legislature could take up in January or February. He expects the measure to pass, based on the work he did with it in the most recent session.

Chambers says he’s just as optimistic, after speaking with members of the Senate Transportation Committee earlier this year. He says the state would have to get permission from the Boy Scouts of America to use its insignia on the new license plate. But he expects that permission to be granted soon.

The plates would cost an extra $15 to be issued, plus $20 a year which would pay for a scouting-related group. Originally, the bill would have allowed Eagle Scout stickers on existing license plates. But Hansen says it’s cheaper to make a special plate instead.
