VAN BUREN COUNTY (WKZO) --They say he shot his mother with a rifle and then claimed it was an accident. Fifty-year-old Tim Harris and was scheduled to go on trial for murder today. Instead the Van Buren County man has pled to a second degree murder charge, and avoided risking a possible life sentence, if it went to a jury.
He will settle for a recommendation from the prosecutor for a shorter prison sentence. Prosecutors say he was drunk back in July when he shot and killed 79-year-old Rose Harris at their home in Lawton.
