Green Lantern rumored to be in 'Superman vs Batman'

by Greg Belfrage

The upcoming Superman vs Batman is providing plenty of grist for the rumor mill.

Rumors are flying that Green Lantern/John Stewart will appear in the movie.  Some reports are quoting inside sources who say Denzel Washington is being considered for the role.  Other reports say Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is also in contention.

Denzel Washington would be a great choice for John Stewart. He's got the maturity and skill to portray an experienced and seasoned Green Lantern. Washington would bring a lot of credibility to the movie.

It's also been rumored that Nightwing and The Flash will make appearances. According to some reports, Grant Gustin would play Flash. That makes sense, as Gustin currently plays Flash on CW's Arrow. Production work is currently underway on a television pilot for The Flash.

However, I wouldn't take any of these rumors too seriously. There was a firestorm of stories a few months ago that Bryan Cranston had been cast as Lex Luthor. That report turned out to be completely false.

Here are the things that Warner Brothers has confirmed about the new movie. Henry Cavill will return as Superman, Ben Affleck will play an older, jaded version of Batman, and Gil Gadot has been cast as Wonder Woman.

I'm a life-long Batmaniac. I've watched Batman in every film, television, cartoon and movie incarnation dating back to the movie serials of the 1940's.  I have grave concerns about this new movie.

Most of my doubts are centered on director Zach Snyder.  As I watched Man of Steel, there was never a moment where I thought, "Oh yeah, THIS is Superman."  Man of Steel just didn't feel like a Superman movie. There was almost nothing familiar about it, except for the names of characters.

I fear the same thing will happen in Superman vs Batman. Warner Brothers can stuff the movie full of classic heroes, such as Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash and Nightwing. But can Snyder successfully recreate the characters in a way that fans recognize and love?

I have a sinking feeling that Zach Snyder will deliver a movie like Tim Burton's Batman Returns... a grotesque world inhabited by bizarre figures that have little resemblance to their comic book counterparts.

I hope time proves me wrong.
