Not even a week after the BCS National Championship game, reports have begun to circulate that Notre Dame Linebacker Manti Te'o lied about having a deceased girl friend.

Te'o, who was reported to have a grandmother AND girlfriend die in the same week in September 2012, didn't clear up any of the stories or allegations during the season. Finally, Deadspin released an article today saying the girlfriend story was a hoax!

Te'o DID lose his grandmother in September but Social Security Administration did not show any records of a Lennay Kekua, whom was presumed to be his girlfriend. There was no report of her death in any news publications or in the Stanford student newspaper, where she "attended" school. 

To me it seems like Notre Dame used this as exposure and to build a story to fuel their season, a story they could feed to the press as a heartfelt tale of someone overcoming the odds.
