The gluten-free diet may not be all that thin stars like Victoria Beckham, Gwyneth Paltrow and Miley Cyrus claim it to be.
The diet calls for people to give up bread, pizza, pasta and cakes that contain gluten, which is a gluey protein found in wheat, barley and rye.
A recent report (in the British Medical Journal) suggests that going without gluten can make you fatter because the makers of gluten-free products swap out the wheat flour for another type of flour such as almond, rice, corn or even bean.
Without gluten, they also have to add additives to keep the bread soft, as well as extra sugar and fat to make them tastier.
The result is that gluten-free bread can actually add pounds to your waistline.
