  • Chris Brown Denied UK Entry For Tour

    Posted by Just Plain Joe

    Chris Brown

Chris Brown has been denied entry into Great Britain on the basis of his past assault conviction, meaning he'll have to postpone a small concert tour there.

Officials confirmed to BBC News that the 21-year-old singer's visa application was scuttled: "We reserve the right to refuse entry to the UK to anyone guilty of a serious criminal offense. Public safety is one of our primary concerns."

Brown, who was sentenced to community service for assaulting ex-girlfriend Rihanna in early 2009, now must cancel at least six concerts, beginning with a show scheduled for Wednesday in Scotland. He also scrapped a show in Ireland.

Can this man catch a break? I agree that he shouldn't have had his hands on Rihanna, but let that stuff live in the past.

  • Protesters at the Spelling Bee?

    Posted by Just Plain Joe

Laura Newcombe of Winnipeg, Canada waits towards the end of the semi-finals of the 2010 National Spelling Bee in Washington

I used to think spelling "fruit" with "froot" was always wrong. Apparently to some protesters, it's not. People gathered in front of the nations capital for the Scripps National Spelling Bee to protest the spelling of words. I promise I'm not making this up! 81 year old Roberta"Mahoney, a former elementary school principal was quoted as saying, "Our alphabet has 425-plus ways of putting words together in illogical ways". The protesting cohort distributed pins to willing passers-by with their logo, "Enuf is enuf. Enough is too much.

This is just absurd to me. This is the way the words have been spelled for years now. Why change it. And the National Spelling Bee is SUPPOSED to involve difficult words. If it didn't, I may have gotten out of the 4th round of my middle schools spelling be and made it to the Nationals. ;)

  • 10 Best Diet Tips

    scale on a green rug

Need to lose a couple pounds to fit in the bathing suit? Just want to look good for the summer? Follow these 10 diet tips and you could be stunning and having all the guys/girls flocking over to see who's this hottie:

    1. Snack, but smartly

It's not bad to snack, but just do it with healthy foods in mind.

    2. Turn off the TV

Dining while viewing can make you take in 40 percent more calories than usual, reports a new study. And texting, driving, or any other distracting activity during a meal can also result in your eating too much. Instead, make each meal something you put on a plate and sit down to, even if you're eating by your lonesome.

    3. Step on the scale daily

If your regular weight increases several days in a row, it's a red flag letting you know you need to cut back a little or beef up your workouts slightly

    4. Work out 3 times a week

Doing 5 minutes each of push-ups, lunges, and squats (in 30-second intervals) will help build and maintain muscle mass. The more muscle you have, the higher your metabolism will be, so you'll torch more calories as you go about your day.

    5. Reach for your cell

Next time your mind gets stuck on a certain food, call a friend and redirect your brain by asking how her day's going. Research shows that cravings only last about 5 minutes, so by the time you hang up, the urge to devour junk will have subsided.

    6. Eat a big balanced breakfast

An a.m. meal made up mostly of carbs and protein with some fat keeps blood-sugar levels steady and hunger pangs away so you're not susceptible to pigging out come lunch, studies show. Opt for something satisfying for your stomach and taste buds — like egg whites and turkey bacon with whole-wheat toast.

    7. Watch the Booze

Self explanatory. Haha. Not saying to cut back all the way, but just don't go overboard with it. It builds up calories and it just makes you more hungry than you should be.

    8. Have fruit twice a day

Fruit has no fat and is mostly water, so it'll fill you up while leaving less room on your plate (and in your stomach) for high-cal fare. Don't freak about fruit's carb count — we're talking the good kind of carbohydrates that contain lots of healthy fiber.

    9. Stay asleep longer

Getting to bed just 30 minutes earlier and waking up 30 minutes later than you normally do can help you make better food choices, researchers report. Also, when you're well-rested, you're less prone to snacking out of fatigue or stress.

    10. Vizualize yourself thin

When you feel your willpower breaking, conjure up a mental picture of yourself when you looked and felt slim. The visual motivation keeps you focused on your goal weight and reminds you that it isattainable, since you've achieved it before.

  • Transformers 3 without Megan Fox?!

    Posted by Just Plain Joe

No! This can't be?! The hit series about robots that transform into vehicles and other devices will be with out actress Megan Fox for its 3rd movie installment. Me personally, I'm a HUGE Transformers fan, so this won't affect me seeing the movie when it hits theaters (it has already begun filming). When the story was released, it was said that director Michael Bay cut her from the cast. Then it was believed that Fox herself opted out. Hmmmmm, something sounds fishy.

    Raquel Torres (NBC Miami)

As a kid, I didn't mind going to school. Once I hit college, that was a different story.  Racquel Torres can be used as inspiration for teachers who claim students don't care about school anymore. Torres is just a week away from capping off her 13 year public education career with perfect attendance. Yes, all her life, she has never missed a day of school. Amazing! *stands and claps*

  • 4 Ways to Spot a Liar

    Posted by Just Plain Joe

Ever assumed a guy was lying to you? How can you tell? By his body language (and I don't mean the Jesse McCartney song).  Use these 4 steps and you could crack the case Sherlock!

    1. He Wraps His Legs Around His Chair

I don't totally agree with this one, because I tend to wrap my leg around a chair regardless if I'm telling the truth or not.  But according to Cosmo, guys are more likely to take a rigid stance when lying. Maybe I just lie more than I actually know ;)

    2. Puts His Hands In His Pocket

Showing palms equals comfort and openness. Other signs are putting them behind his back or fidgiting with a device, such as a cell phone.

    3. He Shrugs One or Both Shoulders

Another one I don't totally agree with, because I shrug a lot. But if he's say a definative statement and does it, watch out!

    4. He Rubs His Index Finger Under Nose

It's almost like covering your mouth and saying something. This is used mainly by guys who don't lie often but feel the need to try and cover up what they said.
