So, Justin Bieber stopped by the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam while in town for a stop of his tour.
The home is the historic site where Anne and her family hid for two years before she was captured by Nazis in 1944.
Bieber was there about one hour and then wrote the following in the guest book before leaving:
Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber."
That last line has stirred up a lot of conversation on social media, with people calling Bieber "a little idiot" who is "way too full of himself."
One Facebook commenter wrote, "Glad he went, but, the last sentence is VERY self serving. He missed the lessons of Anne totally," while another added, "How does he manage to think about his own fame and success attending a historical place of such tragedy and injustice?"
Twitter exploded after the news, as well, with fans and non-followers alike sharing their opinions on Bieber's remarks.
The Anne Frank House however is defending the pop star... wiriting this on their official Facebook page:
"The Anne Frank House was pleased to welcome Justin Bieber to the Anne Frank House last Friday... We think it is very positive that he took the time and effort to visit our museum. He was very interested in the story of Anne Frank and stayed for over an hour. We hope that his visit will inspire his fans to learn more about her life and hopefully read the diary."
